Welcome to the University of South Florida Orientation. The following the instructions will guide you through setting up your NetID and getting started with using myUSF.
[edit] What is a NetID?
The USF NetID gives you access to the following services:
- Access to All open use compter labs on any of the USF campuses.
- Access to myUSF.
- Access to USF E-Mail, webspace, and Blog space.
- Access to Free computer security software.
[edit] How do I get my NetID?
To activate your NetID you first need to goto the myUSF login screen at http://my.usf.edu and click the "Sign UP" link at the top-left hand side of the Welcome page
- Click the sign up link at the top of the page
- On the following page, click "Activate Your NetID" to begin.
The NetID sign up process will require you to enter information from your USF ID card. If you do not have a USF ID card you can obtain a new one from the USFCard ID center.
If you are in an orientation with a group now, your orientation leaders may have the U Number you need to signup.
Once you have activated your NetID you can goto http://my.usf.edu and login with your NetID and password you created.
[edit] Having problems setting up your NetID?
The following are some common problems people encounter when setting up their NetIDs.
Common Problem #1 - Having problems creating a password for you NetID?
Solution: Your NetID password needs to be 6 - 8 characters in length and the password should contain both letters and numbers. We suggest using your initials followed by the last few digits of a number you can remember.
Common Problem #2 - Forgotten password?
Solution: If you've forgotten your NetID and password you can reset them by going to http://my.usf.edu and clicking on the "Forgot your password" link under the login screen.
[edit] What is myUSF?
myUSF is the USF Online Portal system powered by Blackboard. On Blackboard you can check your grades, download class material, communicate with group members, submit assignments, take quizes, exams, surveys, and have access to the library's electronic reserves and digital resources.
myUSF is located at this web address:

[edit] How to use myUSF?
When you login to myUSF you will first see your personalized Welcome Screen similar to the screen shot below.
Please take a little while to become familarized with myUSF.
- 1 Top Navigation Bar
- 2 Left Panel
- 3 Right Panel
And then you can later re-arrage the layout by clicking on the Modify Layout button also located at the top-right hand side of the screen.
You can also check your USF email while in myUSF. Just look for the Mail icon whenever you are on the Welcome screen.

[edit] How to Access Courses on myUSF?
You can access your online courses in myUSF by clicking on the Courses tab at the top of the screen. A list of links to your classes will appear in the main window. You can access your classes by clicking on a course links.

This picture is an example of a course in myUSF. On the left-hand side is the course menu, and on the right is the content section. Students use this view to access their course materials, discussion boards, take assessments, and check grades.
