After following this guide you will have a complete running copy of OpenOffice. The guide will go through everything from downloading OpenOffice to installing the application on your computer.

[edit] Downloading OpenOffice

  1. Go to OpenOffice.org.
  2. Click "Download OpenOffice.org 2.0"
  3. In the blue box, select your language, operating system (i.e. Windows, Macintosh, etc.), and a download site.
    • NOTE: For the download site, be sure to select a server that is geographically close to your current location for a faster download.
  4. Next, you will be greeted with a contribution page. OpenOffice depends solely on contributions from users rather than requiring them to pay a specific amount. Any contributions whether they be five dollars or just reporting a bug are greatly appreciated. Click Continue to Download to proceed.
  5. Click "Run" to start unpacking OpenOffice installation files onto your computer

[edit] Installing OpenOffice

The following steps assume completion of all steps within the section above.

  1. On the initial installation screen press "Next" to proceed to the unpacking screen.
  2. The unpacking screen has several pieces of information that you may want to pay attention to.
    1. Be sure that the space required is less than the space available.
    2. Click "Unpack" if and only if, you meet these requirements.

  3. Next you should be greeted with an install screen. Click "Next" to proceed.

  5. Read through the license agreement. Click the radio button next to "I accept the terms in the license agreement if you agree. Click "Next" to proceed.

  7. Enter your information within the user information fields as follows.

  9. Choose either complete or custom installation.
    • NOTE: Any OpenOffice guide on this site will assume that you have chosen to perform a complete install.

  10. You may also make OpenOffice the default program for many common Microsoft Office Applications.
    • If you do not have Microsoft Office, you should check every possible file type.
    • If you do have Microsoft Office and would like to use it more often than OpenOffice, do not check these boxes.

  11. On the next screen, click "Install" to begin installation.
