[edit] Purpose
The purpose of this document is to introduce you to BlackBoard’s Course Copy tool. This tool allows you to copy materials from one course into another course.
[edit] Prerequisites
The document was designed for instructors who are first time users of Blackboard. This document assumes the instructor has basic computer knowledge and internet skills (IE 6.1, Netscape 7, Mozilla, FireFox).
[edit] The Course Copy Tool
This tool will allow you to copy course material from one course to another. First, you must be in the course containing the material you wish to copy.
[edit] Finding the Course Copy Tool
You can find the Course Copy tool under the Course Options section of the Control Panel.
After selecting the link, a new page should load with a link saying "Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course". Select that link.
[edit] Course Copy Preferences
A new page should load with four sections: Select a Course, Select Course Materials, Enrollments, and Submit.
[edit] Select A Course
In the first section, enter the Course ID you want the copied material to go into. An example of the Course ID would be ABC1234.567F89; where ABC is the course prefix, 1234 is the course number, 567 is the course section number, F is the term (F is for Fall), and 89 is the year (05 for 2005).
You can also find your course by clicking on the browse button. A page similar to the following should load.
You can search by either the Course ID, Instructor, or Title/Description. Select and enter the search criteria you wish and click on the 'Search' button.
After the search has finished you should see a page like the one below.
Click on the 'Select' button next to the course you wish to copy material into. This should return you to the Course Copy Preferences page. As you can see, the Course ID has now been entered for you.
[edit] Select Course Materials
The next section allows you to select the course materials you want to copy over. Select the checkbox next to the material you wish to copy. If copying over test, quizes, or surveys that are in a content area "Test, Surveys and Pools" needs to be checked.
[edit] Enrollments
The third section is for enrollment copying. Select the checkbox to copy user enrollments.
[edit] Submit
When you are finished setting all the preferences, scroll down the fourth (and last) section to submit your content. If you are not satisfied you can cancel and start over again.
A new screen will load confirming that the course copy has been queued and an email will be sent once the process has been completed.
[edit] Certain Tasks With Course Copy
To make sure Test Links are copied, you must select Course Copy options for Content, Text/Surveys/Pools, and Gradebook Items. This is what your selections should look like.
Here is what copies when certain items are checked:
1) Content (only)
Most all content items were copied. Safe Assignment links were copied, but course will need synchronization. No Test/Survey Links or Assignments were copied. The Gradebook is empty.
2) Test/Survey/Pools (only)
All test, surveys, and pools are copied into Test Manager/Pool Manager. No content items were copied. No Test/Survey Links or Assignments were copied. Safe Assignment links are not copied. The Gradebook is empty.
Note: The test manager will copy over. However, you must re-deploy the tests.
3) Content & Test/Survey/Pools
All test, surveys, and pools are copied into Test Manager/Pool Manager. Most all content items were copied. Safe Assignment links were copied, but course will need synchronization. No Test/Survey Links or Assignments were copied. The Gradebook is empty.
4) Content & Test/Survey/Pools & Gradebook Items
All test, surveys, and pools are copied into Test Manager/Pool Manager. All content items were copied. Including links to Tests/Surveys, and Assignments. The Gradebook is populated with columns. Safe Assignment links were copied, but course will need synchronization.
Note: You may want to clean out your Destination Course before you do your Course Copy as there will be many items that are duplicated and the course will become cluttered.
